INTERVIEW

IWD: ASH HOLMES

In celebration of International Women's Day, for the month of March we will profile some of the wonderful women we know. Those who ground us, ignite us and send us upwards towards the stars. First up, local abstract expressionist painter, Ash Holmes. A Northern Beaches success story, Ash has been painting 'for as long as she could hold a brush,' has won multiple awards and hosted several sold out shows. Her work is followed and captured by art collectors around the world, its dreamy, undeniably feminine magnetism stirring something in most. We fired a few questions about 'woman,' and these are her replies ...

M+E: You feel most empowered as a woman when …

AH: I’m in tune with myself and in a flow state. I also love working towards a goal in a team of like-minded people. I really believe that empowering one another raises our energetic frequency, leading to inner growth.

M+E: A woman’s partner should make her feel …

AH: Supported.

M+E: A woman’s greatest asset is her …

AH: Inner strength, we are strong mentally, physically and spiritually.

“I admire women who dominate in a man’s world – Frida Kahlo is whom I admire most, she is viewed as an icon of female creativity. I’d ask Frida Kahlo, what was it like being a female artist at that time?”

M+E: If you could dine with any three women in the world, who would they be?

AH: Tracey Emin – because she’s an absolute legend and helped gain respect for women in the art world. Sinead O’Connor – to hear her talk in that beautiful Irish accent and Drew Barrymore – she’s a Pisces, and as a fellow Pisces I feel connected with her … and she’s got a cup full of stories. Stevie Nicks can come too if she’d like.

M+E: The female you most admire and one question you’d like to ask her?

AH: I admire women who dominate in a man’s world – Frida Kahlo is whom I admire most, she is viewed as an icon of female creativity. I’d ask Frida Kahlo, what was it like being a female artist at that time?
