ELYSE MIDDLETON X NIM SOLES

Forever on the hunt for mindful makers of likeminded style essentials, we are thrilled to host conscious footwear brand, Nim Soles online at MAURIE + EVE. Created by graphic designer and wonderful mother of two, Elyse Middleton, these season-less soles are designed to wear on repeat, every day, from desk to beach to lunch and all moments in-between.

We chat with Elyse on the details of Nim soles’ EVA Foam, a quest for carbon neutrality and business as a ‘one woman show.’

M+E: Nim Soles are made from 100% Eva Foam – talk to us about this material, where it’s sourced and why it’s considered pioneering in the category of footwear.

EM: Our slides are produced with a high quality EVA foam (ethylene-vinyl acetate), which is BPA free and does not contain chlorides, heavy metals, phenols, latex and other toxic substances found in PVC. It is also formamide free and contains glutamate composition and biological complex enzyme, making them more efficiently biodegradable.

This material has so many amazing qualities making it perfect for footwear. These include being 100% water repellant, very light weight, easy to clean, soft and flexible (with the ability to form to your foot over time), and excellent rebound and longevity. All this results in an incredibly comfortable shoe that is super versatile, wearable and long lasting.

We do however, acknowledge that EVA foam is not a carbon neutral, material and in an effort to help minimise our impact as much as we can, use minimal, plastic free packaging using only recycled and biodegradable materials. Further to this, we are partners of One Tree Planted, planting a tree for ever pair sold.

M+E: You’re a graphic designer, how have these principles aided your creation of Nim Soles?

EM: Nim has been a real labour of love, from the initial idea to branding, sourcing, web design and marketing. I’m a one woman show and being a graphic designer has definitely helped me to do all these things myself. I still have a lot to learn, especially from a business and marketing point of view, and am just feeling my way through it all as I go.

M+E: What gap does Nim fill in the footwear market?

M+E: Describe the Nim aesthetic in 3 words.

EM: Minimal. Neutral. Relaxed.

M+E: Describe the Nim customer in 3 words.

E: I don’t know if I could put them into just 3 words, but to me the Nim customer is someone who values comfort, style and versatility. You want to look good but also feel good.

M+E: Album/artist on repeat?

EM: I can never go past a bit of Amber Mark but my 3 year old daughter is obsessed with Harry Styles … so that’s usually what we’re listening to!

M+E: Last random act of kindness?

EM: I’m very proud to be partnering with One Tree Planted and pledging to plant a tree for every pair of Nim’s sold. Just a small way we can try and give back and do our bit to reduce impact.

A wise person once told you …?

EM: Nothing worth doing is easy!
