As travel continues to stand still, our minds run wild with visuals of sun-loved coastlines and the latest, luxury hotels. This week, we land our thoughts in Capri’s lesser-known, less-luxe neighbour, Ischia. Now home to one of 2020’s most lauded hotel openings (thanks chic hotelier, Marie-Louise Sciò), Hotel Mezzatorre has rightfully reimagined the island’s wild north-west tip.

Set in a turreted former 16th-century watchtower and pirate’s lookout, the landmark possesses the intangible energy of rich history, some of its former owners including Luigi Patalano (distinguished scholar, politician and poet), and Luchino Visconti – eclectic Italian movie director. It’s a scene, and one we’d happily skip town for yesterday. You’ll find two in-house restaurants, an obligatory rooftop bar calling Campari spritz, and a series of suites written with whimsy and the art of timelessness. Think peach Bellini umbrellas, a private sapphire swimming cove, saltwater pool and onsite thermal spa. It’s fun, elegant and pleasingly unpretentious. So of course, it’s teaming with celebrities.
